Điện Biên opens 2026 Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival

ĐBP - Under the evocative theme “Ban (Bauhinia) Flower - Điện Biên’s Aspiration,” the 2026 Bauhinia Flower Festival officially commenced on the evening of March 8 at the Điện Biên provincial Stadium.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, alongside provincial leaders and a massive, vibrant crowd of local residents and ethnic communities.

Opening the event, Party Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Tiến Dũng emphasized that Điện Biên is working tirelessly to position itself as a “Historical destination with cultural identity and majestic nature.”

In alignment with the Politburo’s Resolution 80 on cultural development, the province has identified tourism as a spearhead economic sector that will drive its “green, smart, and sustainable” growth in this new era of national advancement.

The province also doubled down on its commitment to improving the investment climate, completing high-speed expressway connections, and developing specialized tourism products like bauhinia flower theme parks and community-based tourism villages.

Representing the Party and State, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính commended the people of Điện Biên for their comprehensive achievements. However, he didn’t stop at praise; he issued a high-energy call to action, urging the province to move with even greater determination and more decisive steps.

The Prime Minister stressed that Điện Biên’s development must be inseparable from the general progress of the Northwest region, aiming to become a regional hub for economy and culture. He specifically requested that the province elevate the Bauhinia Flower Festival brand to a national treasure and an international attraction, leveraging the unique blend of heroic history and breathtaking natural beauty.

The evening also marked a significant branding milestone as Lê Thành Đô, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, officially named Runner-up Vũ Thúy Quỳnh, a daughter of Điện Biên, as the Điện Biên Tourism Ambassador. This appointment is expected to cast a wider spotlight on the province’s cultural and historical values for both domestic and international audiences.

Furthermore, Lê Văn Lương, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, awarded “Cultural and Tourism Village” certifications to Mường Chà commune and Điện Biên Phủ ward, encouraging these localities to further develop community-based tourism and improve local livelihoods.

The festivities culminated in a meticulously choreographed artistic program titled “Bauhinia Flower - Điện Biên’s Aspiration.” The performance unfolded in three distinct chapters: “Điện Biên - The source of the Northwest,” which explored the deep historical roots of the nation’s extreme west; “Highland Vitality,” depicting the optimistic spirit and festive daily life of the ethnic groups; and “Flowers of Earth and Sky - Convergence and Radiance,” a colorful finale celebrating the bauhinia flower as a cultural icon and a symbol of modern integration.

The atmosphere reached a fever pitch when singer Trúc Nhân took the stage with his hit “Made in Việt Nam,” bringing an infectious, modern energy that perfectly balanced the evening’s traditional soul.
